Somali Migrant Allegedly Stabs UK Welfare Officer Five Times at Asylum Facility Near Heathrow

A Somali migrant who entered Britain illegally on a small boat allegedly attacked welfare officer Aaron Gomes with a large kitchen knife at the Stanwell Hotel near Heathrow Airport around 6:30 PM on August 15.

Prosecutor Lucy Lumsden testified before Staines Magistrates’ Court that Gomes sustained five wounds: two to his upper body and three to his leg. One injury penetrated his chest cavity and was described as “significant.” Gomes reportedly lost a large amount of blood and repeatedly lost consciousness before escaping from the migrant’s grasp. Police provided immediate first aid, and he was transported to a hospital where he remains in stable condition. The court heard that Adani entered Britain illegally via small boat and appeared in court with assistance from a taxpayer-funded Somali interpreter.

Lumsden described Gomes’s condition after the attack: “He had lost a significant amount of blood, was very pale and going in and out of consciousness.”

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and management of asylum seeker accommodations in the United Kingdom, as well as the vetting processes for migrants arriving by small boats. Unlike those detained at taxpayer-funded facilities during claim processing, such individuals are left at large among the public. Adani has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 17.
