A two-year-old girl was found dead in a property in Chertsey, South East England on June 25, prompting murder and sexual assault charges against a 31-year-old French national who first came to Europe from the Central African Republic. Police have charged Kevin Kerjean, 31, with murder, rape of a child under 13, and sexual assault of a child under 13.
The incident occurred in Chertsey, England. Kerjean appeared in Guildford Magistrates’ Court on June 27 and is scheduled for a Crown Court appearance on June 29.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen of Surrey Police stated, “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the child’s family, as well as all those who knew her.”
The horrific death has left the local community in shock, with police maintaining a significant presence in the area to investigate the circumstances. Authorities have clarified that the property in question is not an active asylum seeker residence, addressing earlier online rumors.
Kevin Kerjean, a French national born in the Central African Republic, was arrested and charged following the discovery of the toddler’s body. Police confirmed they are not seeking any other suspects at this time. The investigation, named Operation Northwall, continues as officers work to piece together the events leading to the child’s death.
