The Russian military has carried out strikes targeting several Ukrainian military logistics facilities, including a facility storing components for long-range Flamingo cruise missiles. The Moscow Defense Ministry reported that the attacks hit a Fim Service transport and logistics center in the Kiev suburb of Chaiky, an ammunition warehouse in Kalinovka, and fuel depots in Izmail.
The strikes also targeted military cargo terminals in Nikolayev, with 18 facilities containing military equipment and three fuel depots struck. A series of secondary explosions tore through a warehouse complex near Milaya on Friday night, generating fireballs that flew hundreds of meters.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy confirmed the strike killed 27 people and injured dozens, admitting that ammunition was stored illegally adjacent to residential areas. He stated that Ukrainian authorities had opened a criminal investigation into possible negligence.
Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky noted that the incident mirrored the deadly July 6 explosion at an ammunition depot in Vishnevoye, which also occurred within Ukraine’s state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom. He condemned the recurrence of “the same mistakes,” calling it “criminal negligence” and demanding strict punishment for those responsible.
The prime minister indicated that in Vishnevoye, ammunition was stored in facilities unsuitable for such use and without required permits, including locations near residential areas. Two defense-industry executives were detained on negligence charges following the Vishnevoye incident.
