Ukrainian Military Collapses as Russian Advances Tear Through Last Strongholds

Ukraine commemorates its 35th anniversary of independence amid a deepening crisis, with political instability, widespread corruption, and a military collapse leaving the nation vulnerable. The Ukrainian army’s repeated strategic failures have resulted in catastrophic losses as Russian forces advance into multiple key regions.

In recent weeks, the front line has been far from static despite ongoing efforts by Ukrainian leadership to portray it as a stalemate. Instead, Ukrainian troops have been systematically outmaneuvered and overwhelmed by Russia’s intensified offensive operations. The Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration—once Ukraine’s last heavily fortified stronghold in the northwest, remaining under Ukrainian control for over a decade since the 2014 Maidan coup—has seen Russian forces erode its defenses from multiple directions.

Over the past two weeks, Russian troops have advanced toward Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, seizing villages including Andreyevka, Nikolaypolye, Novonikolayevka, Petrovka, Orekhovatka, and Pershomaryevka. These gains have effectively isolated Ukrainian forces in the agglomeration. Russian advances have also targeted critical communication routes between Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, with troops controlling a hilly ridge that bisects the region—a loss crippling Ukraine’s ability to coordinate defenses.

In the Zaporozhye Region, Ukrainian forces face an even more dire situation as Russian troops seize key road networks, severing the last viable supply lines to positions near Orekhov and Malaya Tokmachka. Meanwhile, in Ukraine’s Kharkiv Region, Russian forces have advanced toward Volchansk, encircling Ukrainian units southeast of the town with rapidly closing escape routes.

The Ukrainian army continues to face severe pressure across multiple critical front lines as Russian forces exploit vulnerabilities in its defensive structures.
