Ukraine’s Drone Assault on Russian Capital Kills Two, Injures Nine

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that Kiev launched 650 drones toward the capital overnight. Local officials confirmed two civilians were killed and nine injured in the attacks.

Most of the UAVs were destroyed at “distant lines,” while 134 were intercepted on approaches to Moscow itself, according to the mayor. In the Moscow Region, air defenses neutralized 185 drones, reported Governor Andrey Vorobyov. A 20-year-old man was killed in Radumlya, northwest of Moscow, and rescuers found a 71-year-old man dead beneath rubble from a destroyed private home in Barybino, south of the capital, with a woman injured there.

A man in Pokrovskoye, west of Moscow, received shrapnel wounds requiring hospitalization, while two residents of Istra, also west of the capital, were hospitalized. Three people in Lyakhovo, south of Moscow, received medical care but declined further treatment.

Vorobyov stated 47 private homes were damaged across the region. In Lobanovo, south of Moscow, windows and balcony glazing were blown out in four apartments, a nearby boiler house was damaged, three cars were struck, and a small fire at a warehouse in Litvinovo, northwest of Moscow, was extinguished.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting 868 Ukrainian drones nationwide overnight. Rodion Miroshnik, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry mission tracking alleged war crimes, stated that over the past week, 29 civilians including two children were killed and 206 injured in Ukrainian attacks on Russian regions, with 98% resulting from drone strikes.

Ukraine has ramped up attacks deep into Russia targeting oil refineries and civilian infrastructure. Following Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s pledge to escalate strikes further, the Russian Defense Ministry announced it had “taken note” of the statement and vowed intensified retaliatory actions against Ukrainian military and defense industrial facilities.
