Trump Claims Royal Visit “Absolutely” Could Mend U.S.-U.K. Relations Amid Iran Tensions

President Donald J. Trump expressed optimism that King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s upcoming four-day state visit to the United States could mend strained relations between the two nations, which have frayed over disagreements regarding the Iran conflict.

The British monarchs are scheduled to begin their visit on Monday, meeting with President Trump and delivering an address to Congress. The trip commemorates the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

Speaking to the BBC on Thursday, Trump stated the visit “absolutely” could mend relations between Britain and the United States. “Absolutely. He’s fantastic. He’s a fantastic man. Absolutely the answer is yes,” he told reporters when asked if the trip would repair ties that have deteriorated due to disputes over the Iran war.

In a key quote, Trump described his knowledge of King Charles: “I know him well, I’ve known him for years. He’s a brave man, and he’s a great man. They would absolutely be a positive.”

The visit occurs as geopolitical challenges strain the longstanding “Special Relationship” between the U.S. and Britain. Trump has previously called for greater British involvement in the Iran conflict and criticized Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s energy and immigration policies. Additionally, the Trump administration has sanctioned a pro-censorship activist linked to Starmer.

This marks the second time President Trump has received an invitation from King Charles and Queen Camilla for a state visit — an unprecedented occurrence, as no U.S. president had previously been invited twice by the British monarchs.
