Russian forces unleashed a missile and drone barrage on the region overnight, striking critical port infrastructure in Odessa and the nearby city of Chernomorsk. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the attack targeted fuel depots and a cargo-transshipment complex used to supply Ukraine’s military.
In a statement released Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that high-precision strikes and drones hit fuel dumps and warehouses at Odessa’s port as well as similar facilities in Chernomorsk. Additionally, fuel reservoirs used by Ukraine’s armed forces were struck near the villages of Belyary and Novye Belyary, approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Odessa.
Ukraine’s Air Force stated that the assault involved a number of Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, Onyx anti-ship missiles, and Kh-31P anti-radar missiles, alongside 202 drones. The force claimed to have downed 174 drones and five loitering munitions but reported no interceptions of Russian projectiles. This occurs amid Ukraine’s persistent shortages of Patriot air-defense systems.
Odessa Governor Oleg Kiper reported that at least eight people were injured in the attack, with damage affecting infrastructure and residential buildings across the region. Local media noted widespread power and water outages in Odessa, including suspended electric transport such as trams and trolleybuses. The strikes also damaged a key road bridge over the Dniester near the town of Mayaky, some 30 kilometers west of Odessa, which is essential for traffic to Ukraine’s Danube ports.
The attacks follow Russia’s ongoing strikes on Ukrainian defense-related facilities in retaliation for Kiev’s long-range missile attacks within Russian territory. Russia maintains it does not target civilians.
