On Friday afternoon, two men in their forties were arrested at a synagogue in St. Hanshaugen, Oslo, Norway, charged with illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosives under Norwegian law.
The arrests occurred near the Mosaic Faith Community. Police reported that an officer on patrol recognized a person familiar to law enforcement who was part of a maintenance team working at a nearby location for some time. The incident was not publicly disclosed until Monday due to an embargo.
This event happened just over a day before an explosion in front of the U.S. embassy in Oslo, which has yet to result in any arrests.
The developments follow a wave of terrorist attacks and suspected incidents targeting U.S. interests globally since the outbreak of the Iran war. Recent examples include an attempt by two men inspired by Islamic State (ISIS) to bomb a crowd protesting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D)—a member of the same Twelver sect of Shia Islam as Iran’s ruling ayatollahs—along with attacks on a bar in Austin, Texas by a man wearing a “Property of Allah” sweater and an explosion at a synagogue in Liège, Belgium.
