DAN NORRIS, FORMER LABOUR MAYOR, FACES POTENTIAL PROSECUTION OVER ALLEGED SEX OFFENSES SPANNING TWO DECADES

A Member of Parliament and former mayor elected for the Labour Party faces potential prosecution after police submitted evidence of alleged sexual offenses spanning two decades.

Police in the United Kingdom are pursuing charges against Dan Norris, a 66-year-old Member of Parliament (MP) and former Mayor for West England, over allegations of sex offenses. Norris was re-arrested earlier this year following his initial arrest last year by Avon and Somerset Police. The investigation began in December 2024.

The allegations include rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, voyeurism, and upskirting involving multiple victims. The incidents reportedly occurred between the 2000s and 2020s.

Norris’s suspension from the Labour Party and removal of the party whip in the House of Commons followed the allegations. Norris, now an independent MP for North East Somerset and Hanham, served as a junior minister under former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown and an assistant whip under Tony Blair. He held office as Labour Mayor of West England from 2021 to 2025.

A police spokesperson stated: “The allegations being investigated relate to rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, as well as voyeurism and upskirting against a number of women… As a result of our inquiries, a file has been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider a charging decision.”

In February, Norris denied the allegations: “I vigorously and entirely deny the serious allegations made against me. They are untrue. I am challenging them through my legal representatives.”

The submission of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service marks a significant step forward in the investigation, with potential charges pending.

A report from April last year indicated that Norris had been arrested for misconduct in public office and child sex offenses. Notably, Norris is a former teacher and Child Protection Officer.
