Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is set to install dedicated Islamic foot-washing stations in both men’s and women’s restrooms. The project was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31 and is estimated at $300,000.
The stations will provide Muslim passengers with a designated area to wash their feet before prayer, addressing complaints that travelers have previously used regular sinks. Dallas-Fort Worth joins Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport in offering similar accommodations for Muslims.
The initiative has drawn criticism from conservatives who characterize it as part of a broader expansion of “Sharia financing” in the U.S. The project is being implemented amid ongoing controversy over a Sharia-centered “Muslim City” project in Texas, which came under investigation last year.
The move coincides with increasing public displays of Islamic culture in Texas, including the state legislature’s declaration of an annual “Pakistan Day” for 2025 and a Houston-area imam launching what he describes as a de facto “Sharia patrol” to pressure Muslim businesses not to sell alcohol, pork, or lottery tickets.
