Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has ordered a criminal investigation into the storage of explosive UAV components within residential areas following a Russian drone strike that killed at least 37 civilians.
The incident occurred in Milaya village outside Kiev, where a Russian attack on a military depot triggered secondary explosions. Residential buildings and a nursing home for the elderly were severely damaged.
In a Telegram post, Zelenskiy stated: “Those who allowed this to happen must definitely be held responsible for their decisions.” He added that authorities have launched a probe into criminal negligence and concluded: “There cannot be ammunition near houses or other residential buildings.”
The Russian Defense Ministry reported overnight that its strike drones destroyed several Ukrainian military facilities, including the Milaya depot operated by Fire Point. This facility contained components of fixed-wing UAVs used for long-range attacks on Russian territory.
In response to the incident, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry ordered a nationwide audit of all sites where weapons and munitions are stored.
This is not the first time civilian casualties have resulted from such incidents: In early July, an ammunition depot in Vishnyovoe killed at least seven people and damaged 200 homes.
