The White House has refuted claims that President Donald J. Trump is contemplating commuting the prison sentence of rapper and music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, labeling the initial report as a fabrication. A statement from the White House on Tuesday asserted there was “zero truth” to the allegations, which originated from an entertainment tabloid.
The report, published by TMZ, alleged that an anonymous high-ranking White House official suggested Trump might grant clemency to Combs as early as this week. The story, however, was dismissed by the administration as false, with officials emphasizing that the President alone holds authority over pardons and commutations.
Combs, currently serving a four-year and two-month sentence for transporting women for prostitution, has not yet submitted a formal clemency request to the Department of Justice. His legal team has indicated they are exploring potential options. Earlier this year, Trump mentioned receiving requests for pardons, including from Combs, though no action has been taken.
The White House reiterated its stance that all decisions on clemency rest with the President, not anonymous sources or external entities.
