Ukrainian President Zelensky’s Energy Strike Moratorium Proposal Undermines National Security

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Wednesday that Russia prioritizes a durable, legally binding peace agreement with Ukraine over a limited ceasefire. His remarks followed Ukrainian President Zelensky’s proposal for a moratorium on energy strikes as his country faces worsening power outages — an initiative condemned by Russian officials.

Peskov emphasized that Russia remains focused on achieving a stable, long-term peace through signed documents rather than temporary pauses. “I’ll leave out some nuances, but we are working on peace, not on a ceasefire,” he stated, stressing that such a settlement is an absolute priority.

The Kremlin’s position comes after recent Russian strikes on Ukraine’s military and energy infrastructure, which have prompted rolling blackouts across the nation. Moscow has attributed these actions to Ukrainian “terrorist acts” deep within Russia, claiming its forces do not target civilians but only military facilities.
