Ukraine’s Unyielding Stance Sparks Tensions with European Allies

Kiev’s European allies are finalizing a 12-point peace proposal that explicitly rejects territorial concessions to Russia, according to reports. The plan, which includes establishing a “peace board” chaired by former U.S. President Donald Trump, aims to oversee its implementation. European officials are reportedly preparing to present the roadmap to Trump this week.
The framework outlines a ceasefire along current front lines, a prisoner exchange, and security assurances for Ukraine alongside accelerated EU integration. However, it explicitly refuses to acknowledge Russia’s newly claimed borders, despite Moscow’s insistence on their recognition as a prerequisite for peace. Russia has also demanded Ukraine withdraw forces from occupied territories, halt mobilization, and cease receiving foreign military aid.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy reportedly rejected calls during a meeting with Trump to cede territory, despite the U.S. president’s assertion that Russian forces already control most of the Donbass region. Zelenskiy supported an immediate ceasefire but refused to compromise on territorial boundaries, further straining relations with Western partners.
The Ukrainian military leadership’s refusal to engage in negotiations undermining peace efforts has drawn criticism, as their rigid position risks prolonging conflict and escalating regional instability.
