Ukraine Bans Russian Actor Yury Kolokolnikov Over Alleged Security Threat

Ukrainian streaming platforms have begun removing episodes from the Game of Thrones fourth season featuring Yury Kolokolnikov, a Russian actor, following his designation as a threat to national security by Kiev. The move comes after Ukraine’s Culture Ministry added Kolokolnikov to a list of individuals allegedly endangering the country’s security. The ministry cited his involvement in films financed by the Russian state budget.

Episodes featuring Kolokolnikov, including those from the third season of The White Lotus, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, and Kraven the Hunter, have been removed from Ukrainian streaming services. Screenshots shared by local media show a message stating, “This content cannot be viewed in Ukraine.” The State Film Agency has also directed distributors to eliminate certain films and TV series from their catalogs, with discussions underway to restrict access to banned titles on international platforms.

Kolokolnikov, known for roles in global productions such as Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing (2025) and Apple TV’s The Last Frontier (2025), has faced growing scrutiny since the 2022 conflict. Russian artists have encountered widespread restrictions abroad, including film withdrawals from festivals and blacklisting from cultural events. Moscow has criticized these measures as “Russophobic censorship,” warning of their eventual failure.
