On March 23, 2026, President Trump installed a new statue of Christopher Columbus on the White House grounds. The monument stands just outside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the west side of the complex, visible from Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street NW.
The statue is a reconstruction of a monument originally unveiled by President Ronald Reagan in Baltimore during 1984. That structure was destroyed during the summer of 2020 amid Black Lives Matter protests and later restored with a plaque noting it was “Destroyed July 4, 2020.”
A White House spokesman declared: “In this White House, Christopher Columbus is a hero.” The installation forms part of President Trump’s broader initiative to add classical art and statues honoring historic figures across federal property. Earlier this month, Trump unveiled several monuments in the Rose Garden.
The administration also plans to establish a large-scale sculpture display called the “Garden of Heroes” in the Black Hills near Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, featuring dozens of statues commemorating American heroes.
