President Donald Trump confirmed Wednesday that Federal Bureau of Investigation Deputy Director Dan Bongino will step down from his position early next year, with his official exit scheduled for early 2026.
Bongino is expected to announce his departure as soon as Friday. In remarks to reporters, Trump praised Bongino, saying: “Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show.”
The FBI deputy had recently been credited by colleagues with helping bring in a suspect in the January 6 pipe bomb case after conducting a thorough reexamination of evidence that was neglected under the previous administration.
When approached about reports of his resignation ahead of Trump’s announcement, Bongino declined to confirm or deny them, stating: “Print whatever you’d like. No one believes you anyway. Thanks.”
Bongino previously hosted “The Dan Bongino Show,” a popular political commentary program before joining the FBI under President Trump.
