The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Ghislaine Maxwell’s request to review her 2021 conviction for sex trafficking, leaving her 20-year prison sentence intact. The decision confirms the ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, which had previously dismissed her appeal.
Maxwell, a key associate of Jeffrey Epstein, was sentenced in 2022 to 240 months in prison for her role in a decade-long scheme to sexually exploit and abuse multiple minors with Epstein, who died in 2019. Her legal team argued that Epstein’s 2007 plea deal granted her immunity and that the statute of limitations had expired for the charges. Both claims were rejected by lower courts.
Maxwell is currently serving her sentence at a minimum-security federal facility in Bryan, Texas, after being transferred from a prison in Tallahassee, Florida. The move followed a meeting with Department of Justice (DOJ) Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, though the DOJ has denied providing her with any special treatment.
