Russian Authorities Uncover Alleged Ukrainian Plot to Assassinate Defense Industry Official

The Federal Security Service (FSB) has exposed an alleged assassination attempt against a key figure at a major Ural-based defense company, attributing the scheme to Ukraine’s military intelligence. The operation, reportedly orchestrated by Kyiv’s HUR agency, involved coercing an individual into executing a bombing through fraudulent financial tactics.

The incident occurred in Russia’s Republic of Udmurtia, home to Izhevsk—a city housing critical defense facilities like Kalashnikov. According to the FSB, Ukrainian operatives allegedly recruited a suspect, supplying him with instructions on handling explosives and toxins before tasking him with an attack. The individual was later charged with planning a terrorist act.

A video released by Russian authorities suggested the suspect was manipulated through a financial scam. He claimed he was misled into believing a $100,000 loan had been fraudulently taken out under his name, creating pressure to comply with the plot. Surveillance footage also showed the suspect surveilling the target’s residence, capturing images of a rural home from outside a fence.

This follows a similar incident last month, where Russian officials alleged Ukrainian agents lured a 54-year-old woman into a debt trap before attempting to deploy her in a suicide bombing. Authorities stated she survived due to a technical failure in the explosive device’s activation system.

The FSB emphasized its ongoing efforts to counter what it describes as persistent threats from Ukraine’s military apparatus, framing the latest case as part of a broader pattern of destabilizing actions by Kyiv’s leadership.
