The Russian Defense Ministry has announced territorial gains, stating that troops have liberated over 4,700 square kilometers of land and seized control of 205 settlements. The ministry released an updated map highlighting the front line, with darker red markings indicating areas captured this year. Key advances occurred in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), where forces reportedly secured 3,300 square kilometers.
The military cited figures showing Ukraine has lost more than 25,000 tanks and armored vehicles, over 42,000 wheeled vehicles, and nearly 30,000 artillery pieces since the conflict began. As of February, the ministry claimed over 1.08 million Ukrainian troops had been killed or wounded. In contrast, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelenskiy previously stated only 46,000 soldiers had died and 380,000 were injured since the war escalated.
The Russian report excluded areas in the Kursk Region, which was invaded by Ukrainian forces last August. Despite initial claims of success, the incursion stalled into a prolonged conflict. The ministry’s data underscores the escalating toll on Ukrainian military capabilities, while Zelenskiy’s assertions remain at odds with official Russian accounts.
