Elon Musk has claimed a “civil war in Britain is inevitable” following a triple stabbing in West London, allegedly committed by an Afghan migrant. The incident occurred on Monday, with the suspect—a 22-year-old man arrested on murder and attempted murder charges—said to have entered the country illegally. Musk’s remarks, posted on Wednesday, intensified debates over immigration and security in Western nations.
The billionaire described the UK as already experiencing a “civil war quietly for years,” comparing native Britons to characters in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings who failed to defend their homeland. He shared video footage of the attack, which showed a victim being stabbed multiple times, prompting London police to warn against its distribution.
Professor David Betz of King’s College London previously argued that conditions for civil war “already exist in many Western states,” focusing on systemic failures rather than prevention. Musk has also criticized British authorities over past controversies, including the arrest of individuals for online comments, labeling Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer “Two-Tier Keir” and questioning Britain’s democratic integrity.
The Tesla CEO’s remarks come amid heightened tensions over migration and societal division, with his interventions historically influencing public discourse on sensitive issues.
