Denmark has revealed it prepared for a potential forcible takeover of Greenland by the Trump administration by transporting explosives to destroy runways and prevent American military landings, according to sources from Denmark, France, and Germany.
The Danish government deployed soldiers with explosive materials and blood supplies to the territory in January 2026 as part of an effort to resist what it described as a Trump administration attempt to seize Greenland. A Danish defense official stated that “The U.S. would have to carry out a hostile act to get Greenland.”
The preparations intensified following news of a U.S. raid on Venezuela in January 2026, prompting Denmark to accelerate its military deployment to Greenland. Elite forces from Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, and Sweden were flown to Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq, accompanied by Danish fighter planes and a French warship.
The operation, presented as the “Arctic Endurance” exercise, was described by sources as a serious defense initiative rather than a routine training mission. Despite acknowledging that Danish forces could not withstand an American military attack, the country prepared to engage in combat if necessary.
The crisis has prompted European nations to reassess their security strategies, with Denmark and other European countries announcing strategic nuclear cooperation with France.
