A watchdog group has called on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to review its contracts with Microsoft following concerns over the hiring of former Biden government lawyer Lisa Monaco, a key figure in the Arctic Frost scandal. The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) sent a letter to DHS on October 31, urging an investigation into Monaco’s new role as Microsoft’s President of Global Affairs.
Monaco, who previously served as a top Department of Justice official under President Joe Biden, was central to the Arctic Frost probe, which involved the unauthorized collection of phone records from Republican lawmakers and campaign operatives. CASA alleged that her appointment at Microsoft poses a significant national security risk due to her access to sensitive government information.
CASA Director James Fitzpatrick criticized Monaco’s position, stating, “The risk that Monaco could again use access to information contained in Department contracts to turn against her political opponents… is great given her past outrageous behavior.” He emphasized the need for DHS to examine Microsoft’s contracts and consider terminating them.
President Donald J. Trump also condemned the move, calling Monaco’s hiring “shockingly unacceptable” and labeling her a “menace to U.S. National Security” due to her role in the Arctic Frost scandal. Trump previously revoked Monaco’s security clearance over similar concerns.
The letter has intensified scrutiny of Monaco’s involvement with Microsoft and its government contracts, sparking calls for further action.
