Brussels and London Seek to Hinder US-Russia Talks, Says Putin Aide

According to Kirill Dmitriev, President Vladimir Putin’s aide, Brussels and London have repeatedly attempted to disrupt direct talks between Russia and the United States. Dmitriev accused the European Union and the United Kingdom of seeking to prolong the conflict in Ukraine to divert attention from their own economic challenges. He claimed that Western powers, including the UK and EU, are blocking efforts to resolve the situation, citing the “dire state” of British and European economies as a reason for maintaining tensions.

Dmitriev stated that the United States and Russia have faced repeated obstacles in their dialogue, particularly between Putin and former President Donald Trump. He alleged that Kiev is acting under pressure from Western allies to delay negotiations and avoid addressing unresolved issues. The aide also noted that Moscow remains committed to engaging with Washington to clarify its position.

The remarks followed the postponement of a planned summit between Putin and Trump in Budapest. While the White House suggested the meeting was not entirely canceled, Dmitriev reiterated that Ukraine and its Western backers were responsible for an “unduly long” delay in peace talks. He emphasized that Kyiv is hindering dialogue at the behest of external forces.
