DNA evidence has been discovered at the scene of Saturday’s deadly shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. According to police, forensic investigators have recovered physical evidence, including fingerprints and DNA samples from the crime scene.
Providence Police Chief Colonel Oscar Perez stated that the investigation is progressing: “It progresses every day with forensics, it progresses every day with witness statements, and so yeah, we’re just trying to find out, and we are going to do our best.”
The attack occurred on Saturday at Brown University, leaving two students dead. Police have repeatedly reexamined the crime scene and surrounding areas in an effort to identify the shooter. An individual detained shortly after the shooting was released following a determination that they were not connected to the incident. Law enforcement sources report that fingerprints were lifted from shell casings found at the scene. Additionally, officials are seeking public assistance to identify a second person who was reportedly near the suspected shooter prior to the attack.
The investigation continues as authorities work to identify the gunman.
