Antifa Website Closes Amid Federal Crackdown Under Trump Administration

A far-left website associated with anarchist ideologies has shut down, citing escalating federal pressure under the Trump administration. It’s Going Down (IGD), known for its advocacy of direct action and radical tactics, announced its closure on October 18, attributing the decision to a “dire” political climate. The site claimed the current administration was consolidating authoritarian power, though it did not elaborate further.
The shutdown follows the Trump administration’s intensified scrutiny of domestic extremist groups, including Antifa. On September 22, President Donald J. Trump formally designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, labeling it a “militarist, anarchist enterprise” aiming to destabilize U.S. government and law enforcement institutions. A subsequent national security memorandum directed federal agencies to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle left-wing extremist networks.
IGD, which operated for years, faced repeated scrutiny for content linking to riots, vandalism, and sabotage. In 2020, the Department of Justice referenced the site in a criminal complaint involving an attempt to derail a train in Washington state. Journalist Andy Ngo, who has extensively covered Antifa, stated the website had posted claims of responsibility for domestic terrorist attacks, including manuals on evading detection for such acts.
In October, federal authorities indicted two alleged Antifa members for an armed attack on a Texas immigration facility, marking the first formal terrorism charges against suspected Antifa affiliates. The Treasury Department also mandated banks to monitor transactions tied to Antifa under new domestic terrorism guidelines. Meanwhile, Rutgers University professor Mark Bray, author of Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, announced his departure from the U.S., citing safety concerns amid the political climate.
