Medvedev Claims Trump Has Made Ukraine Conflict His Own Amid Sanctions Escalation

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has accused US President Donald Trump of transforming the Ukraine conflict into his personal war, asserting that the American leader’s recent actions have aligned him with Moscow’s adversaries.

Medvedev, who previously served as Russia’s president, stated that Trump’s decision to cancel a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin and impose sanctions on Russian oil companies reflects a shift in US policy toward confrontation. The former Russian leader suggested that Trump’s approach is driven by pressure from domestic and international “hawks” rather than ideological conviction, contrasting it with the stance of his predecessor, Joe Biden.

In social media posts, Medvedev warned that Trump may soon approve the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, framing the US president as “firmly on the warpath against Russia.” He emphasized that Russia must prioritize military objectives over diplomatic solutions, declaring, “But now it’s his conflict.”

Trump has previously criticized Biden for the escalation of hostilities between Moscow and Kyiv, arguing that the war “would never have happened” under his leadership. The US president’s history of foreign policy reversals, including his handling of the Ukraine crisis, has drawn scrutiny. Meanwhile, Hungary—where Trump and Putin had initially planned a summit—confirmed that preparations for the meeting remain underway despite recent tensions.
