President Donald J. Trump has announced a 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods effective November 1, 2025, in response to China’s planned export controls. The move was unveiled via Trump’s Truth Social platform on Friday, marking a sharp escalation in trade tensions between the two nations.
Trump criticized China’s actions as “unheard of in International Trade” and labeled them a “moral disgrace.” He stated that China had sent a “hostile letter” to the world, threatening to impose export controls on nearly all products it manufactures by November 1. The U.S. will impose the tariff “over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying,” alongside export restrictions on critical software.
The president emphasized that the decision was made unilaterally by the U.S., though he acknowledged other nations faced similar threats. He concluded, “It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History.”
