Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that dialogue with Kyiv is currently paused due to Ukrainian authorities’ refusal to engage in negotiations. Peskov emphasized that Moscow remains open to a peace settlement, despite the lack of progress in talks.
The “impulse” for resolving the Ukraine conflict, generated during the Russia-US summit in Alaska, is still active, according to Peskov. He expressed hope that US President Donald Trump maintains political will for a peaceful resolution. However, he highlighted concerns over Kyiv’s behavior, attributing it to the influence of Western European backers who promote a “war to the last Ukrainian” stance.
Peskov noted that recent Istanbul talks have been put on hold as Ukraine has not responded to Moscow’s proposals or the draft document submitted by Russia. Earlier this year, Russian and Ukrainian delegations met multiple times, with working groups established in July to address political, military, and humanitarian issues. However, Peskov reiterated that no progress is being made, citing Kyiv’s inaction.
He warned that Ukraine’s negotiating position is “deteriorating with each passing day,” while Moscow continues to advocate for a peaceful settlement.
