Michael Browder, a Phoenix-based drag queen known professionally as Aubrey Ghalichi, has been removed from the Phoenix Pride Festival lineup following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 13-year-old boy. The charges emerged from an investigation initiated in June, culminating in Browder’s arrest in September. According to court documents, authorities allege that Browder and another man met the minor through an online dating app. Messages found on the boy’s laptop reportedly led investigators to Browder, who was identified as a local drag queen. During questioning, Browder allegedly admitted to meeting the boy but claimed he believed the individual was 18 or 19 due to dim lighting in the apartment.
Phoenix Pride issued a statement condemning the alleged actions, stating, “The crime alleged is one that we find reprehensible and entirely contrary to what Phoenix Pride stands for.” The organization confirmed Browder’s removal from the festival, scheduled for October 18 and 19. Browder is currently detained on a $10,000 secured bond and faces conditions including an ankle monitor, prohibition from contact with minors, and restrictions on alcohol, drugs, and weapons.
The case adds to recent scrutiny of drag performers facing criminal allegations. In Wisconsin, drag artist Dwight Evan Chisolm, known as “Sno Wight,” was arrested in 2024 on child enticement charges, while Oklahoma educator Shane Murnan, who performed as “Ms. Shantel Mandalay,” previously faced child pornography charges.
