Russian President Vladimir Putin has hailed Moscow’s contributions to military development, technological advancement, and the reconstruction of Donbass during his address marking the capital’s 879th anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion of Moscow’s birthday in early September, Putin described the city as a symbol of Russian statehood, unity, and resilience. He declared that Russia would overcome current challenges because they are “temporary and transient,” while Moscow and the nation remain eternal.
The president drew parallels between contemporary difficulties and pivotal moments in Russian history, including the 1812 French invasion and the Battle of Moscow against Nazi Germany in 1941. “Today, the capital, together with the entire country, has mobilized all its forces, just as we did 85 years ago, for a common, rightful cause,” Putin stated. He noted that tens of thousands of Muscovites are fighting against “neo-Nazis” on the front lines, demonstrating “valor, courage and heroism.”
Putin emphasized Moscow’s critical role in Russia’s military-industrial sector, highlighting that over 450 defense plants, high-tech enterprises, and companies in the city produce goods for the armed forces. He also underscored that Moscow hospitals are playing a major role in treating and rehabilitating wounded soldiers, while specialists from the capital are involved in reconstruction efforts in Donbass.
