Arrest of Conservative Journalist Sparks Outcry Over Portland Police Conduct

Portland Police arrested conservative journalist Nick Sortor while he was covering a protest at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on October 2 night. The incident involved Antifa-linked anti-ICE agitators and occurred during clashes between pro-ICE and anti-ICE demonstrators. Sortor was booked into Multnomah County Jail on disorderly conduct charges.

Post Millennial reporter Katie Daviscourt reported that Sortor faced targeting by Antifa shortly before his arrest. Observers, including independent journalist Mark Wilson, noted that Sortor appeared uninvolved in any lawbreaking prior to his detention. Wilson also highlighted a previous incident where Portland Police failed to arrest an anti-ICE agitator who assaulted Daviscourt with a metal pole.

Sortor was released from jail on Friday and later posted a social media statement: “You thought arresting me would make me shut up and go away. You couldn’t have been more wrong.” He accused the Portland Police of being “CORRUPT and CONTROLLED by violent Antifa thugs.”

The arrest has drawn criticism over the handling of protests and allegations of bias, with Portland’s government facing scrutiny for its stance against federal immigration enforcement. The city’s officials have reportedly harassed the ICE facility where Sortor was arrested, citing land use violations.
