A coalition of 26 Labour Party Members of Parliament and one independent MP has reported Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party to the government’s Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), accusing it of racism and “Islamophobia.”
The group, led by Pakistan-born Afzal Khan, stated that “over the last few years, we have seen a number of Reform UK politicians and members make comments that are clearly racist and discriminate against ethnic minorities, and in particular, Muslims.” They emphasized that this racism “does not exist in a vacuum” and has severe real-world consequences for millions of British Muslims.
Reform UK defended its actions with the statement: “We stand by our comments. We will not be intimidated.” The MPs cited Nigel Farage’s March remarks regarding mass Muslim prayer demonstrations in Trafalgar Square as an example, where he described such events as an “attempt to overtake, intimidate and dominate our way of life,” noting that mass Muslim prayer is banned in many Muslim countries.
A Reform UK source added: “We know Labour now kowtow to Islamists for votes, we never will. The British public are tired of pathetic accusations and made up words such as Islamophobia.”
