A report has revealed that 100 churches are destroyed in Nigeria every month, with an average of 32 Christians killed daily. The violence, attributed to jihadist groups such as Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen, has escalated since 2009, according to the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law (Intersociety). Over 19,100 churches have been attacked in this period, with Emeka Umeagbalasi, Intersociety’s chairman, warning that Christianity could vanish from Nigeria within 50 to 100 years without urgent action. He cited mass displacement, forced conversions to Islam, and systematic violence as key factors. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has proposed the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025, aiming to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and hold officials accountable for enabling religious persecution.
