A Florida man faces up to 10 years in federal prison after allegedly making violent threats against President Donald J. Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and former Attorney General Pam Bondi on social media.
U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones has charged Nathaniel Sanders II, a 32-year-old Florida man, with threatening the President and other high-ranking officials via social media over the past few months. The alleged threats occurred between January and April and included claims that Sanders would bomb the White House, statements about possessing a gun in videos targeted at First Lady Melania Trump, and explicit expressions of intent to harm Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The incidents are under investigation by federal agencies including the U.S. Secret Service, Capitol Police, Diplomatic Security Service, and Miami Beach Police Department.
Quiñones stated: “Threats against public officials are not political speech. They are serious federal crimes that endanger public safety and the rule of law.”
If convicted, Sanders could face up to 10 years in federal prison. This series of threats follows a third assassination attempt against President Trump, which occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner at the Washington Hilton on Tuesday.
At that event, Cole Tomas Allen allegedly ran through security and shot a Secret Service agent before being apprehended. Allen was charged with attempting to assassinate the President, interstate transportation of a firearm to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.
The President and the Cabinet were evacuated and ultimately unharmed in that incident.
