Texas State Representative Pat Curry (R) has demanded U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) remove his name from a list of endorsements for the Republican Senate nomination runoff in May.
In a statement, Curry said: “For the record, I have not and did not endorse in this race. I made that clear when asked as recently as last week! I resent anyone assuming or speaking on my behalf! I acknowledge all of my endorsements only in writing. Please remove my name immediately!”
The demand follows Cornyn’s release of a new list of alleged endorsements on Thursday, which Curry has contested.
Recent polling data shows Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) leading Cornyn by 53 percent to 37 percent as the May runoff approaches.
On March 15, President Donald J. Trump reportedly stated: “I’ve heard that. I don’t know. I mean, I don’t know. I don’t know that to be a fact… I like both candidates very much.” The president has not officially endorsed Cornyn for the Senate nomination despite campaign assurances of support.
