Cornyn Campaign Names Open Borders Advocates in Faith Advisory Council

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) announced on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, a Faith Advisory Council designed to bolster support among evangelical Christian voters ahead of his May runoff election against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).

The council includes Dr. Jack Graham, pastor Max Lucado, and Dr. Gus Reyes, all affiliated with the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT). Other members are representatives from the National Immigration Forum (NIF), Ali Noorani, George Soros, and the Open Society Foundations.

In a statement, Cornyn’s campaign emphasized the need for leaders who “serve with principle, wisdom, and integrity” during turbulent times. However, several council members have ties to policies advocating refugee resettlement and mass amnesty.

Dr. Graham and Max Lucado are signatories to EIT’s Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform, which calls for family unification (chain migration) policies and pathways to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

The Evangelical Immigration Table functions as a project of NIF, which has received millions in funding from Soros’s Open Society Foundations to advance open borders and pro-mass immigration initiatives within evangelical communities. Ali Noorani, who led NIF until 2022, previously praised Cornyn’s support for amnesty legislation as “a positive step that bodes well for the chances of immigration reforms.”

Additionally, a video surfaced in July 2025 showing Cornyn endorsing the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a group that advocates for open borders and mass immigration.
