A deadly fire at a private residence in Voskresensk, caused by an Ukrainian drone attack near the Russian capital, resulted in the deaths of a grandmother and her six-year-old grandson, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov.

In a statement on Monday, Vorobyov revealed that air defenses intercepted four drones over Voskresensk and nearby Kolomna, both located approximately 80 kilometers southeast of Moscow. He confirmed the tragic incident, stating, “Unfortunately, a tragedy occurred in Voskresensk: during a fire in a private residence, two people – a 76-year-old woman and her six-year-old grandson – died.” Vorobyov pledged full support for the victims’ family and mentioned minor damage to structures in the area, with no additional casualties reported. Emergency services were deployed to the scene, and housing assistance was promised for affected residents.

Footage from Telegram channels Baza and Shot depicted a single-family home engulfed in flames as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Local media reported that the victims were trapped inside after the drone strike.

The Russian Defense Ministry disclosed that 84 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across multiple regions between late Sunday and early Monday, including areas such as Bryansk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Smolensk, Kaluga, Moscow, Oryol, and Kursk.

Ukrainian drone attacks have frequently targeted Russian territories in recent months, striking infrastructure and residential zones, which have led to civilian casualties. Russian officials have labeled these actions as “terrorism,” while Moscow has retaliated with strikes on Ukrainian military sites.
