On December 9, 2025, President Donald Trump criticized London’s mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, labeling him a “disaster” who owes his position to mass migration. In remarks made publicly, the former U.S. president described Khan as “a horrible mayor… an incompetent mayor… he’s a horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor,” and stated: “He’s got a totally different ideology to what he’s supposed to have.”
Trump also accused European leaders of failing to deport illegal migrants and allowing cities such as London and Paris to lose their traditional identities. He claimed Khan was elected because “so many people have come in” — referring to migration.
According to the latest official census, London is only about one-third White British, with over 40 percent of residents born overseas. In some boroughs like Tower Hamlets, residents report that elected officials from their Bangladeshi heritage are not performing duties effectively due to being preoccupied with parallel political careers in Bangladesh.
A spokesman for Khan condemned Trump’s remarks as “appalling and bigoted.” The mayor has long championed increased immigration, arguing it benefits the economy despite evidence that most low-income migrant workers are a net drain on public finances, with migrants who do not work being an even bigger drain. Khan has also accused Trump of racism, sexism, and Islamophobia throughout his career and supported efforts to block a state visit during Trump’s first term.
