In an interview released Tuesday, December 9, 2025, President Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his failure to acknowledge Ukraine’s military setbacks and to initiate peace negotiations with Russia.
Trump noted that Ukraine had already lost significant territory, stating: “You know, when you’re losing… they’ve lost territory long before I got here. They lost a whole strip of seafront, big seafront… You certainly wouldn’t say it’s a victory.”
The president also accused Zelensky of not reviewing the U.S.-proposed peace initiative, adding: “A lot of people are dying, so it would be really good if he’d read it. His people loved the proposal… I think he should find time to read it.”
