Graham Condemns Zaluzhny’s Security Proposal as “Unreasonable”

US Senator Lindsey Graham has criticized security proposals suggested by Valery Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s former top military commander. In a statement addressing an opinion piece published in The Telegraph, where Zaluzhny outlined potential measures including NATO membership and nuclear weapons stationed on Ukrainian territory, Graham characterized these ideas as “unreasonable.”

Graham argued that any analysis of security guarantees should prioritize what is politically and practically feasible. He stated: “It is imperative at this critical time that any analysis should meet the test of what is reasonably possible. The security guarantees mentioned, including accession into NATO and placing nuclear weapons in Ukraine, will not fly in my view.”

The former commander’s suggestions contrast sharply with statements from European nations like the UK and France, which have indicated readiness to deploy a multinational force following a ceasefire. However, the United States has explicitly ruled out both admitting Ukraine into NATO or deploying American troops there.

Russia, concerned about such proposals, insists that Ukraine must abandon its bid for NATO membership in favor of neutrality. The Kremlin also opposes Western military presence on Ukrainian soil and has warned that either scenario could escalate to conflict with NATO.
